The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Advisory Committee meets Friday May 1 and you are invited to join us — virtually! The Committee will discuss its report and consider recommendations from the Vision and Time/Volume subcommittees.
The virtual meeting, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., is open to the public. Unlike previous FOIA Advisory Committee meetings, this meeting requires registration for all who wish to attend. Please register here by midnight April 28, 2020. We will send instructions by email to all registrants for accessing the meeting, which will include a public comment period at the end of the meeting. A NARA employee will also be monitoring the chat function of the virtual meeting and will read out loud questions and comments from the public. (You are also welcome to submit public written comments by email.)
At its last meeting on March 5, the Committee passed nine recommendations from the Records Management Subcommittee, and one recommendation and one best practice from the Time/Volume Subcommittee. The Committee also agreed in spirit with four Time/Volume recommendations.
On May 1st, the Committee is expected to discuss several recommendations from the Vision Subcommittee and return to the four “in spirit” recommendations from the Time/Volume Subcommittee. Meeting materials will be posted on the FOIA Advisory Committee website.
This is the eighth meeting of the Committee’s third term. The ninth and final meeting will take place virtually on June 4, 2020, at which time a a final report and recommendations to the Archivist of the United States will be discussed and voted on by the 20-member Committee, whose members include FOIA experts from inside and outside of government. We hope you’ll join us!
