Volunteers Needed for Chief FOIA Officers Council Committees

“Join us on the Farm Front” National Archives Identifier 514751

If you are a government Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) professional with an interest in technology or cross-agency collaboration and innovation, we need you!

The Chief FOIA Officers Council (CFOC) seeks volunteers for its two committees: the Technology Committee and the Committee on Cross-Agency Collaboration and Innovation (COCACI). Much of the CFOC’s work is done by the two committees, and with recent staffing changes across the government, new volunteers would help the Committees continue their valuable work.

The CFOC established the Technology Subcommittee (later renamed the Technology Committee) in 2019 based on a recommendation from the 2016-2018 term of the FOIA Advisory Committee. Its purpose is to study the use and deployment of technology in FOIA programs across agencies, and identify best practices and recommendations that can be implemented across agencies.

COCACI first met in 2021, following a recommendation from the 2018-2020 FOIA Advisory Committee. COCACI’s focus is  on FOIA challenges that cross agency boundaries. Past issues explored by committee members have included standardizing the Government Information Specialist (GIS) position and virtual FOIA office administration.

Volunteers are asked to attend monthly meetings—each committee meets monthly—and to commit to individual or small group work in the interim.

If you are interested in volunteering for either—or both—of these committees, please email CFO-Council@nara.gov indicating your interest. Please consider volunteering to help continue the important work of the Technology Subcommittee and COCACI and do not hesitate to contact OGIS if you have questions or concerns. Thank you for all you do to administer FOIA!
