The Chief FOIA Officers Council Technology Committee, in conjunction with OGIS and the Department of Justice Office of Information Policy, is planning to host the third virtual NexGen FOIA Tech Showcase for federal agencies on May 12-14, 2026. The purpose of the NexGen FOIA Tech Showcase 3.0 is to identify technology for federal agencies to assist in streamlining FOIA case management and case processing using artificial intelligence (AI)supported tools. This event is in follow-up to the two-day NexGen FOIA Tech Showcase [1.0] that was held on February 9-10, 2022; and the NexGen FOIA Tech Showcase 2.0, held May 14-16, 2024.
AI-supported tools include and are not limited to: AI-supported eDiscovery/electronic record search tools; AI-supported case processing tools (including the collection of records to review for redaction and posting accessible Section 508-compliant releases); AI-supported redaction tools (including tools that allow for automatic redaction of various record types including paper, digital content, videos, data, etc.); AI-supported tools to assist and improve public FOIA reading rooms and FOIA websites; and AI-supported tools to improve the FOIA customer experience.
