Representatives from the U.S. Department of State will present on several pilot projects involving artificial intelligence in the FOIA and declassification spaces at the next meeting of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Advisory Committee on Thursday, September 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET. This virtual meeting is open to the public and registration is required if you wish to make oral public comments. Please register here by 11:59 p.m. ET on Tuesday, September 5, to receive an email with a link and telephone number for accessing the meeting. Members of the public participating in the meeting via the link may comment or raise questions via telephone during the last 15 minutes of the meeting. You are also welcome to submit written public comments at any time by using this form. We also will livestream the meeting on the National Archives’ YouTube channel but those viewing on YouTube will not be able to make public comments.
Representatives from State will present on their machine-learning model recently launched to test the ability to streamline FOIA workloads. This recent model was featured in the Federal News Network article “State Department looks to AI for streamlined FOIA workloads.”
The Committee also will hear updates from its three subcommittees looking at implementation of past Committee recommendations, modernization of FOIA administration, and FOIA resources.
