OIP Director Sean Glendening Appointed to FOIA Advisory Committee

Jim Byron, Senior Advisor to the Archivist of the United States, has appointed Sean Glendening, Director of the Office of Information Policy (OIP) at the U.S. Department of Justice, to the 2024-2026 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Advisory Committee. 

The Committee’s charter designates a seat for the OIP Director or the OIP Director’s designee. The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) established the Committee in 2014 in accordance with the Federal Advisory Committee Act. OGIS Director Alina M. Semo chairs the Committee, which consists of no more than 20 individuals who are all FOIA leaders from both inside and outside of government. The Committee’s goal is to foster dialogue between the executive branch and the requester community, solicit public comments, and recommend improvements to FOIA administration and proactive disclosures. The five prior terms of the FOIA Advisory Committee collectively passed 67 recommendations for improving the FOIA process, all tracked on this dashboard, https://www.archives.gov/ogis/foia-advisory-committee/dashboard. The Committee’s work has focused on a range of topics from process improvements and staffing to training and technology.
